What to Expect
 
Housing
 
As a ThinkChina intern, you’ll live in a mordern ThinkChina sponsored residence facilities located in modern serviced-apartment suites. The fully-furnished residences offer 24-hour security, exclusive and secure key-card based security, dining facility, in-room washer and dryer, along with a complete suite of modern amenities including wireless broadband Internet and air-conditioning. First aid trained and well qualified Resident Assistants (RA) from ThinkChina will be living along with students for the entire duration of the internship. ThinkChina RAs and staff are on call 24 hours a day.
 
Food
 
Breakfast and dinner are provided during the week and brunch and dinner on the weekends. Meals include hot and cold choices from either Western or Asian cuisine, something for every diet and palate.
 
Interns are responsible for purchasing their own lunch Monday–Friday as they will be eating at, or near, their internships.
 
Special dietary needs can be met, provided ThinkChina is made aware of such special needs beforehand.
 
Transportation
 
Depending on the location of a student’s internship, there are numerous ways to get from the ThinkChina campus to work on a daily basis. Shanghai has one of the most extensive and efficient public transportation systems in the world; so much of the city can easily be reached by public transportation(i.e. subway).
 
Each intern receives a prepaid MetroCard, to use on the Shanghai subway that is good for the entire duration of the internship program. ThinkChina staffs assist students with subway practice runs for no less than two weeks. ThinkChina staff will provide all neccesary guidance and information during the orientation. By the time you head to your internship, you will feel at home traveling around the city.
 
While interns are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to Shanghai, our staff can assist with travel Plannings. Participants must pay for their own airfare which is not included in the program. All arriving students will be met by a ThinkChina staff member and accompanied to the campus quarters. The procedure will be reversed on departure.
 
Evenings and Weekends
 
Beyond your internship, you’ll enjoy the excitement of life in Shanghai. ThinkChina arranges a diverse calendar of evening and weekend activities including theater, concerts, cultural events, language workshops, museums, shopping, group dinners, and much more.
 
College and Career Planning
 
As you begin to plan your “life after high school,” ThinkChina provides perspective, advice and ideas to help you make important decisions. We bring in experts to talk about college planning and career options. You can ask questions, share concerns and begin to map out the next few years. In addition, ThinkChina works closely with local alumni chapters of leading universities including Harvard, Yale and Stanford giving unique access for our students to alumni in the area.
 
Community Service
 
Throughout the summer, the interns and staff will participate in a community service projects. Whether we work with senior citizens or clean-up a park, we will work together to make a difference in our host city.
 
Curfew
 
Participating students will have a nightly check-in at 11:00 pm Sunday – Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday.
 
Attendance Requirements
 
All participants are required to attend scheduled evening and weekend events. Internship attendance is of utmost importance given the short time period. Exceptions will be made for evening and weekend events as long as there is written consent from the parents or guardians.
 
Violations
 
Interns are expected to follow rules set by the ThinkChina staff which is established for safety reasons. There is zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol throughout the program. If any of these substances are found, responsible parties will be sent home immediately without a refund. Travel arrangements and costs will need to be handled by the family.
